UN Migration Pact: government crisis in Estonia, caused by the Pact

Prime Minister Jüri Ratas acknowledged that the Estonian government is now in crisis because there is a lack of unity among its member parties about the Pact.

Justice Minister Urmas Reinsalu (Pro Patria) opposes the Pact while members of the Government in the other two coalition parties are for it. Reinsalu also refuses calls by the Social Democratic Party (SDE) to resign.

The President of Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid, said that she will not go the Marrakesh to endorse the Pact if there is no agreement in the Government about it.

Thus, the current situation indicates that Estonia might not endorse the Pact. However, the situation is still fluid and changes might be possible. The Prime Minister calls for another meeting for discussions about the government crisis today (16.11.2018) in the evening.
